The Chilterns

The Chilterns are an Area of Natural Beauty running through Berkshire, Buckinghamhire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, parallel to the Cotswolds to their south and east. The line of the hills continues south and west through the Berkshire and Wiltshire Downs.

These hills are mainly chalk, so there is little good local building stone. The barns are mainly timber framed with a large number of medieval, aisled bans.
