Beamish Living Museum of the North really lives up to its name. It is a huge site comprising a colliery and pit village, a Georgian landscape complete with early locomotive, horse-driven winding gear and manor farm, a small town, a railway station and a home farm.
Fortunately there is plenty of transport to help you get round the site. A variety of trams and buses run to all parts of the site. In the town, the local coop is a big draw as many people like myself still remember their mother’s “Coop number”. Use the image on the left to go to the website.
