Although my main interest is barns in England, I could not resist visiting Bokrijk when I had the chance. It was one of the first open air museums set up to rescue old buildings. It is bigger than the Weald & Downland and has three villages. Belgium remained mainly rural for longer than England so the villages are more rural in nature and all of them have several farmhouses with their attached barns. It took about 2 hours to get there by train from Brussels. The train stops at Bokrijk and we spent the whole day exploring.
