Ken’s Great Barns - Places to Visit

Denny Abbey & The Farmland Museum

Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum lie just off the A10 on the left-hand side as you travel from Ely to Cambridge. For me it combined the pleasure of two barns with a ruined abbey. The more places I visit, the more I find out about the strong connection between monastic institutions and the land, both during the Middle Ages and afterwards when the monasteries had been dissolved and their lands sold off. The larger barn was once the Nun’s refectory and the smaller one a typical Cambridge aisled barn.
