Julia’s barn in Hagworthingham, Lincolnshire is an excellent example of a mud & stud barn. It has had a number of alterations over the years including an outshut on each long side and the conversion of what was probably a hipped thatched roof into a gabled, corrugate iron roof.
Inside, the mud has been removed from one side wall, leaving the studs in place. This clearly shows the method of construction. Of particular interest are the double, ladder braces from the wall posts to the tie-beams (below left). Note also the arched lintel over the doorway (below right)
