I quite often get emails from people researching a particular barn. I was recently contacted by the owner of this interesting barn conversion. I have not yet visited it but he was kind enough to give me permission to use his photographs for this page.
“It is an aisled barn dating from the C15/C16 century, timber-framed and brick with a stone slate roof. The barn was converted to a dwelling some 20 years ago. The conversion has provided a generously proportioned 4 bedroom dwelling. The original design and scale of the barn are clearly evident.” (owner’s description)
The Historic England listing describes it as: “5-bay, double-aisled, reduced from former 7 bays. 3 king-post trusses with single angle struts straight braced to ridge, former closing truss at north end has 3 vertical infilling struts to either side of broad king post.”
The midstrey would originally have been in the central of the seven bays but is now in the fourth bay of five.
