Castor Barns, Cambridgeshire

Castor is a small village in Cambridgeshire, on the old Peterborough Road, just off the A47, outside Peterborough. It obviously once had a number of street farms, which probably date from the days of the Open Field system, although most of the buildings appear to be seventeenth century or later. Most of them are no longer functioning as farms and their barns have been converted to other uses.

The tenants of the one known as Castor Barns allowed me in to photograph this newly renovated barn. It is opposite the path up to St Kyneburgha’s Church which is also worth a visit.
