Barn at Musem of Kent Life

Every area has its special heritage. For Kent it is the hop. Hop picking used to be an important event in the lives of families in London. The Museum of Kent Life preserves the memory of those days.

The thatched barn was built at Vale Farm near Calcott, north of Canterbury.  It was rescued from vandalism and neglect in 1984 and re-built at Kent Life in 1989. It is a typical Kent barn with a thatched roof and tiled Kent porch. The porch side doors are higher than the exit doors opposite as the unladen wagon would be much lower. I could not photograph the interior as it was in use as a childrens’ play area.
