Barns at Wyke Farm, Dorset

We found these barns while staying nearby in Sherborne, Dorset. On the way back from a day’s barn hunting, my wife noticed that “Wyke Farm” was printed on the map in gothic script. We went down a cul-de-sac and there were the barns at the bottom. The farmer was preparing one of the barns for a ‘Harvest Supper’ and allowed me to look inside.

The sixteenth century barns are part of a continuous range on one side of the farmyard. They have buttressed, stone walls with raised-cruck trusses supporting the stone-slate roof. The tie-beams are probably later additions to prevent spreading.
