I have not included many ‘barn conversions’ partly because they are people’s private homes and partly because very few have been able to retain the ‘barn feeling’.
The barn at Feeringbury Farm is an exception. I came across it on ‘Grand Designs’ and was so impressed with the way that Ben and Freddie had maintained the integrity of the barn that I contacted them and asked for permission to visit.
It is a seven bay, timber-framed, aisled barn, probably contemporary with the medieval farmhouse. It has arched braces to the aisle posts, some of which are quite waney. At one end are is a pair of grain silos which have been retained and converted to bed and bathrooms. A fire resistant partition has been built between the living area and the owners studios.
