Hellens Manor, Herefordshire

Hellens Manor is a mainly Elizabethan building, deep in the Herefordshire countryside, near the village of Much Marcle. It is usually open for guided tours on Wednesdays and Sundays from March to September, but it also hosts various craft and music events, so check the website before you plan a visit.

The barn was probably built in the eighteenth century, but it may be earlier. It is of post and truss construction. The roof has some king-post trusses with angled struts springing from a shoulder on the king-post. This style of truss was introduced in the late seventeenth century. The other trusses, which have collar beams and raked struts to the principal rafters, could be earlier. The barn is now used as a wedding and event venue.
