Chatteris Tithe Barn

On our way to Norfolk this spring we called in at Tithe Barn Farm to see the aisled barn there. Built in the sixteenth century, the timber-framed barn was originally half-hipped. It was later changed to a gabled structure. It still has its original midstrey and many of the timbers are original with carpenters’ marks visible on several.

It is clapboard clad and roofed with corrugated iron which has kept the interior dry and preserved much of the structure. The farmer continues to maintain it. He and the local history society are hoping that a new use can be found for it.
