“Woodspring Priory is a former Augustinian priory beside the Severn Estuary about 3 miles north-east of Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset. The priory was founded in the early thirteenth century, and dedicated to Thomas Becket.” (Wikipedia)
The priory is owned by the Landmark Trust which houses a small museum under the church tower. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the nave of the church was converted into dwellings which are now rented out by the trust as holiday lets.
The barn belongs to the neighbouring farm and is still in agricultural use. Built in the fifteenth century it has seven bays with a central midstrey and wagon porch. There are a number of additional doorways which are probably later insertions. The roof trusses appear to be original. They are constructed of heavy timbers with arched windbraces below the lower purlins and collar beams supported by arched braces just below the upper purlins.
