The Manorial Barn, Whiston,
Yorkshire

The Manorial Barn in Whiston is an eight bay, aisled, timber-framed barn. The five southern bays have been dated to the early thirteenth century making it possibly the oldest agricultural building in Yorkshire. The three northern bays were added in the sixteenth century. It had three threshing floors and has a gin house (where a horse powered a threshing machine) on the other side.

It stands on Chaff Lane, which presumably derives its name from the chaff being blown out of the midstreys during threshing. It is now run as a community venue, which was granted a license for civil marriages in April 2013. It may be open on Heritage Open Days.
