Barns in Barnack,
Cambridgeshire

On our travels round England, we always try to visit the great cathedrals as well as other churches. Many of them, particularly in the eastern counties make use of Barnack stone. While we were in Cambridgeshire, we decided to visit the village of Barnack.

There are several interesting barns and farms and they, as well as the houses, are mainly built from Barnack stone. It has a bright, attractive colour, as this is one of the outcrops of the limestone which forms the Mendips and Cotswolds.

One of the exceptions - a barn built in brick - but a very attractive dovecote next to it.

Entrance to one of the farmyards with a barn facing straight on.

Almost unaltered barn - now used as a workshop.
