Arreton Barns is the Isle of Wight’s largest arts & crafts centre with cafes, shops, gardens a medieval church and The Shipwreck Centre. This is housed in a stone barn near St. George’s Church.
The barn is gabled with parapets and a corrugated iron roof, though it must have been thatched originally. Inside it has triangular trusses supporting the roof with raked struts to a collar beam between the principal rafters. A mezzanine floor has been inserted at one end, looking like the bridge of a sailing ship. The museum is packed with information and exhibits on ship wrecks and all things nautical.
