Church Enstone is a medieval barn which originally belonged to the rector of the parish. This makes it a genuine “tithe barn” rather than a monastic grange or manorial barn.
It is not clear whether it is a cruck barn or a “raised-cruck” barn. The plinth on which the crucks stand is about a metre high and there is a clear demarcation between this and the rest of the wall. It is even possible that the upper wall was originally timber and wattle-and-daub.
The barn is in private ownership, but is sometimes open for Heritage Open Days.
