Sissinghurst Castle Barn, Kent

The barn at Sissinghurst Castle is a Tudor, brick barn. Set in the farmyard next to the later oasts it is a fine monument to agriculture and status.

It is five bays long with tall brick buttresses and long ventilation strips in the walls. The wagon entrances are tall pointed arches. It has a clay tile roof.

Inside, a modern, spiral staircase has been inserted to gives access to a hayloft, eighteenth century machinery and a views of the queen-post truss roof.
