Barn at Boxtree Farm

I had passed his barn in its farmyard several times on the way from Birmingham to Stratford-on-Avon. One day, taking advantage of the lack of traffic, I pulled into a lay-by and walked back to see if the farmer would allow me to photograph it.

The farmyard was plastered with warning notices of a 24 hour surveillance system being in operation and this turned out to consist of three generations of alert, vociferous dogs. The eldest of these had obviously retired and was with the farmer when I knocked on the farmhouse door. After I explained my interest he kindly gave me permission.

The barn is a typical 5 bay, box frame barn with brick in-fill to the frame panels and a tiled roof. It has two midstreys, but the rear doors have been closed off with clapboard planks. The interior features jowled wall posts supporting queen post trusses with raked struts to the lower purlins.
