The Barn at Hargrave,
Suffolk

I don’t usually visit barn conversions, but I was invited by the owners to look at their six bay, aisled barn in Suffolk, thought to date from the late sixteenth century. It is a very substantial barn, converted by the previous owner. The centre three bays have been left completely open to the roof with the bays at each end converted to living accommodation on three levels. Inserted metal spiral staircases give access to the upper levels.

This unusual and friendly barn is handy for Bury St. Edmunds and Constable Country. Michael and Sonia are refurbishing and modernising the conversion. They have retained the central open area and updated the living areas where they now offer Bed and Breakfast.
