The Barn at Studley, Warwickshire

The Barn at Studley is a typical midland, box- frame barn. There are several others in the area. At each end is an inserted floor, probably originally a hay-loft.  Many midland barns were for mixed use as crop storage and animal shelter.

Note the diagonal braces in the corners which helped to ensure that these structures kept their erect four-square appearance. The picture below clearly shows how easily doors and windows can be fitted into this type of frame.

The barn is now a “house and garden” shop with some interesting and attractive items.
