Manor Farm Barn, Somerleyton,
Suffolk

This is a beautiful manor tithe barn. It is built from brick and flint with a thatched roof, common building materials in this part of Suffolk. It has seven bays with a central midstrey. It was built in the mid seventeenth century. The roof structure is very similar to that of the barn at Leiston Abbey, which is also thatched.

This barn is still an agricultural building, used to store feedstuffs for the estate. I wish to thank the estate workers who allowed me to look inside. Note the high entrance porch on the right of the interior view and the lower exit doorway on the left.
