Field Barn Farm, Thatcham

I came across this barn on the ‘Images of England’ website. When I visited, it was part of a large agricultural enterprise, but the owner allowed me inside to photograph it.

It is a large, timber-framed, aisled barn with a central midstrey and half-hipped roof. The design of the roof truss makes it one of a large group of barns in the Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire area which features ‘cranked’ or ‘curved’ under-principals supporting the collar beam and purlins. It is now used for pallet storage with fork lift trucks replacing the carts of earlier generations.
