Faversham Abbey - Minor Barn

The Minor Barn is the earlier of the two barns, dating from 1425. It is Listed Grade 1. Like the Major Barn it is a timber-framed, aisled barn and originally had a full hipped roof, but the eastern end has been cut off and is now gabled.

It has fine octagonal crown posts which support the central purlin. Three of the trees from which the aisle-posts were cut, were not quite as tall as their fellows and so were cut slightly higher in the crown. When the trees were inverted to create a jowl at the top it left the stubs of the branches at the base (inset).
