Faversham Abbey - Minor Barn

The Minor Barn is the older of the two barns, dating from 1425. It is Listed Grade 1. Like the Major Barn it is a timber-framed, aisled barn and originally had a full hipped roof, but the eastern end has been cut off and is now gabled.

It has fine octagonal crown posts which support the central purlin. (Top right and below - centre). Three of the trees from which the aisle-posts were cut, were not quite as tall as their fellows and so were cut slightly higher in the crown. When the trees were inverted to create a jowl at the top it left the stubs of the branches at the base. (Below - right)
