The Barn at Torre Abbey was originally a monastic barn used to store and process grain for the abbey. It may have been built as early as the thirteenth century although the roof appears to be late fifteenth century. It is also known as the Spanish Barn having been used to house prisoners from the Spanish Armada in the sixteenth century.
It is built of sandstone and limestone rubble, with central opposed porches making a cruciform floor plan. It is divided into 16 bays by 17 raised-cruck trusses, the end ones being close to the gables. There are external buttresses in line with each roof truss. There is considerable racking of these trusses owing to the absence of wind-braces. It is now hired out as a wedding and events venue.
