Tretower Castle & Court,
Powys, Wales

Tretower Court and Castle was occupied for over 900 years. Starting off as a fortified manor in the twelfth century, with a round keep and a bailey (below). When more settled times came, the owners built the more up-to-date Court in the fourteenth century. This was updated and improved for three hundred years.

The family then left and it became a farm. Now it is in the ownership of Cadw (the Welsh Historic environment service) and some of the rooms in the Court have been restored to their former glory. There are two barns associated with Tretower, one belonging to the farm (top right)and one opposite the Court (bottom right).
