Whenever we go on one of our trips around England we avoid motorways whenever we can. Minor roads are slower, but they are far more interesting and it is easier to stop.

On a recent trip through Shropshire, on a small twisting road, I spotted a large tiled roof poking above a set of farm buildings.

There was room to pull in and the farmer was in one of the buildings. He took me to see the barn I had seen. The cat-walk in the roof was installed by his father fifty years ago when it was still used for grain. The farm is now pastoral and the barn is used for raising calves.
