West Pennard Court Barn, Somerset

West Pennard Court was a grange of Glastonbury Abbey. The barn is one of four surviving barns which belonged to the abbey.

It is smaller than the other three with only five bays. Like the barns a Glastonbury, Pilton, it has a raised cruck roof and a central midstrey.  It is not such a high status building as the others, although it did have a dovecote on one end. The keeping of doves was a prerogative of the lord of the manor.

The barn fell into dereliction and was bought and repaired by a local businessman who then passed it on to The National Trust.
