Causeway Farm Cruck Barn

Causeway Farm has a large cruck barn similar to the one at Stonyhurst which is only a few miles away. The barn is not open to the public. It is part of the de Hoghton estate and lies a few miles from Hoghton Tower which is open to the public.

In the barn there are four pairs of crucks. A number of padstones are visible in the walls, so it is likely that the walls were of timber, replaced later by the current stone walls. Each cruck has two wall spurs which originally supported wall posts. Each pair of crucks is joined by a yoke and a collar beam which also supports a pair of dorsals supporting two purlins.
