Hayne, Zeal Monachorum, Devon

The barn at Hayne is a gable ended barn built of cob on stone footings. It now has a corrugated iron roof, though it would have originally been thatched.

The roof trusses are similar to those in Dunster Tithe Barn and are original to this barn. However they may be reused from an earlier barn as evidenced by the mortises for the threaded purlins. It is a four bay barn with two opposed cart doorways in the third bay from the north end.

It is probably contemporary with the mid 17th century Hayne farmhouse. The limewashed cob walls give it a light, warm interior.  With a bar installed in the 4th bay from the end is now available to hire as an events & wedding venue.
