Nether Poppleton Tithe Barn

The tithe barn in Nether Poppleton near York was built just after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Timbers have been dendro-dated to 1542/3. It is a single aisled timber-framed barn. Originally it would have been five bays long, possibly with a hipped or semi-hipped roof and an extra half bay at each end. The brick walls and gables are later than the timber frame. In 1928 fire destroyed two gables at one end, which is why the wagon entrance is no longer in the centre.

After falling into dereliction the barn was rescued by local action. It is now run by The Friends of Poppleton Tithe Barn and used as a local event and wedding venue.
