Barn at  Abbey Manor - Preston Plucknett

“The Abbey Manor at Preston Plucknett was originally called Preston Bermondsey, suggesting it may have belonged to Bermondsey Priory. Its later name is derived from Alan de Plugenet, an early lord of the manor.” (Ditchfield, The Manor Houses of England)

The Manor House is the headquarters and conference centre of Abbey Manor Group Ltd. which also owns the barn. It is a fine limestone, gabled, cruciform building with eight bays and a single midstrey. It has raised cruck roof trusses with collar beams which which support three rows of purlins (top right). There are arched windbraces to the lower two rows. An upper floor has been inserted top provide more floor space. It is now let to commercial tenants.
