Lacock - Fox Talbot Museum

The Fox-Talbot Museum is housed in a large stone barn next to the entrance to Lacock Abbey. It also houses the ticket office.

William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877) lived in the Abbey which belonged to his family. He researched photography in its early days and in 1839 published a paper on the use of photographic negatives from which multiple copies could be made. The museum presents his life and achievements.

The barn has been much altered. I don’t think the large entrance is original and an upper floor has been inserted, although it may have been a stable block rather than a barn with a hay loft over the stables. It has king post trusses which look original.
